Squirrel!

The long days of summer are here and my family has been busy enjoying the weather and spending time with our favorite people. That has meant a little less time to post projects, but I have been creating 🙂

Today’s card is one I made for this week’s sketch challenge at SplitCoastStampers. This is definitely a go-to kind of layout, so I hope you’ll give it a shot!

For this card, I started out by stamping and coloring the branch as well as the squirrel on a separate piece of paper. I had the patterned paper handy to help me decide what colors to use. You can’t see it here, but I also stamped a second squirrel from that same stamp set and placed it on the inside of the card along with a sentiment that reads, “Squirrel! Oh nuts, I missed your birthday.” I don’t know if this happens to you, but I often make cards way in advance but then don’t send them out on time. (insert eye-roll here). I guess you could say I’m planning ahead with this one!

I finished the card by bringing in a heat embossed sentiment on a little flag and added a little more interest with linen thread, a few sequins and an acorn from the set. Placing it directly onto a card base would have imitate the sketch more exactly, but was in a colorful mood so stepped it up with a layer of (folder) embossed white and patterned paper (scrapbook.com).

In case you would like to play along, here’s the sketch we are working with. For more ideas and inspiration, visit the SplitcoastStampers forum. This week is even more jam-packed with ideas as we celebrate 15 years of community. Hope to see you there!
