A couple of years ago, we realized that the palm tree in front of our house was a really pretty highway for critters to make it up to our roof. Yikes… As much as it broke my heart, we had to cut the tree down and redo the landscaping in that area. After researching options, we decided to make it more xeriscape with rocks and plants that could easily make it on their own with whatever rain falls out of the sky. We now have two aloe plants included in the design and I’m loving the low-maintenance of that whole area. And also loving no longer providing easy access to unwanted critters! (Critters are only fun on cards!)
Today’s card features an adorable little cactus from Lawn Fawn! So cute! I love that this set includes a couple of fun expressions you can add to give even more character. Bring on the winky face…
I started with masking off a portion of a stencil and ink blending a couple of bright greens in a vertical column. Once I had the image colored and fussy cut, I started working on the layout of that whole focal piece. I really enjoy having layers and interesting little bits in there to draw your eye around, so I added a bit of copper thread under our main image and layered them along with a die cut circle. The sentiment comes with this same stamp set; it’s all photopolymer so I was able to bend the words a bit so they could encircle the main image.
