Envelope art for your greeting cards

I tried something fun last week, something new to me though it really shouldn’t have taken me this long to try it. Envelope art… where you decorate the envelope for the card or note that you are sending. I’ve watched so many videos by Kristina Werner where she paints/draws the most beautiful envelopes you have ever seen and never thought to try it myself. Maybe because I can’t draw? lol

Then last week, somehow – I’m not even sure how – I ran across a line of envelope art stamps by Inky Antics and the lightbulb finally turned on in my head about incorporating this into my card making. It’s fun getting something besides a bill or advert in the mailbox; how much more fun when even the envelope is personalized?

To give myself a little more room to write the address, I masked the top and right side of the matchbox stamp before stamping. This allowed me to extend the lines and make a larger box using a pen and ruler. I finished it off by adding the matches and giving it all a little color. There is a part of me that is wondering what the postal service will think about something with matches going through the mail…

So have you tried it? If you haven’t yet – I hope you will and let me know how it goes!
